Getting married at St Stephen's ,
an open and inclusive church.
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! We would be glad to help you celebrate.
We welcome marriage enquiries from all people no matter where you are in your faith exploration, religion, nationality, gender, and if you have been previously married. You might be interested in celebrating your marriage at St Stephen's Uniting Church or requesting a marriage in another location, including parks and gardens, reception places, etc. One of our ministers would be able to assist you in this.
Our worship space is a city CBD location. Inside the building it is beautiful, the service is friendly yet fitting for the occasion, and our aim is to allow you to experience and remember this ceremony, while at the same time praying for God's blessing on you as you make your vows before God, family, and friends.
There are legal requirements for the marriage of two people in Australia, governed by the Commonwealth Marriage Act. There are also some requirements in order for two people to be married within the Uniting Church.
You will need to meet with one of our Ministers at least three times before the wedding, with the third meeting close to the wedding date.
Meeting one: will take place on one Sunday morning at St Stephen's church building.
1.5 hours 10am - 11:30am including attending worship.
Meeting two: at the church building or off property, if your prefer. 1 hour
(The second meeting can be at a location off property closer to your work or where you live. At the second meeting legal forms are filled in, and we can talk about marriage preparation, music, flowers, the order of the ceremony, our beliefs and questions, and so forth. )
Meeting three: will take place on one Sunday morning at St Stephen's church building. 1.5 hours 10am - 11:30am including attending worship.
If you request a rehearsal, this would be a fourth meeting. We do not require you to have a rehearsal; you may request one.

What some people have said about weddings at St Stephen's Uniting:
"Our family and friends were so impressed and touched by the service. Thank you. We will see you again soon."
"We are writing to say our sincere thanks for a wonderful wedding service. Many of our guests commented on how good it was; that you were not put off by our grand-daughter’s distress due to the stress and strangeness of the day. They asked us whether the bride and groom attended the church, as you seemed to know them so well. "
"Thank you for agreeing to marry us and for praying for the Lord’s blessing on our union. My husband thought he could not marry in a church again due to his prior divorce. We were so happy to find such a beautiful church. Thank you for your part in giving us the wedding we dreamed of."
"Don’t be surprised if you see some of our family and friends attend St Stephen's church to hear your service as they loved the way you do weddings!"
USING ANOTHER MINISTER/PRIEST: Please fill in a Venue Hire form, explaining you are wanting to bring your own minister/priest. This will be considered, and also determined as to whether this is a venue hire. The venue fees will be approximately $2,600 when using another minister / priest outside of the Uniting Church in Australia.
