JUNE 24-
JAZZ UPSTAIRS
featuring
DELAY 45
6pm-7pm $20/$15
Delay 45 are led by trumpeter Tom Avgenicos, in close collaboration with pianist Roshan Kumarage, bassist Dave Quinn and drummer Ashley Stoneham.
Individually agile and collectively unified, their performance style is characterised by short motifs, loops and songs that provide the platform for dynamic textural interplay, ostensibly within the style of a contemporary jazz quartet. With a friendship that dates back to their high school years, Delay 45 perform with a rare cohesion and sensitivity. The result is that the band's collective musical identity comes to the fore, a fine balance between precision and openness, where structure dissolves into spontaneity and familiarity gives way to exploration.
They have performed at many of Australia’s leading venues and festivals, including the Sydney Opera House, Phoenix Central Park, Melbourne Recital Centre, and the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, and internationally across Europe.
Tonight, they launch their latest single while performing new music from their forthcoming album I'll Go Where You Go/
"the pleasure of discovering this music—unfolding so calmly, so secretly—will inevitably draw you back, because it remains, at its core, distinctly unexpected." - bestofjazz.org
"a bold new chapter in Australian jazz". - Sydney Morning Herald
"once in a generation" - Limelight Magazine
