CATHERINE ZHANG is currently 14 years old. She started playing piano when she was 5 years old, in Brisbane, Queensland. When she was 8 and half, Catherine started playing violin with Professor Peter Zhang. At the age of 10, Catherine was accepted into the Conservatorium of Music's Rising Star Program where she learnt with Ms. Janet Davies and frequently played in the Saturday performances. She then switched to Mr. Carl Pini, former London Symphony concertmaster and Music Director of The Australian Chamber Orchestra, when she was 11. In 2015, Catherine was accepted into the Conservatorium of Music High School, where she continued her musical studies with Ms. Nadia Monastyrsky. In July 2016, she attended a Music summer school at New York where she studied with Mr. David Fiedler. She studies with Mr. Bruce Yang currently and currently attending Santa Sabina College this year.Catherine has received numerous scholarships locally and internationally for her music study. She is the prize holder for Sydney and Ryde Eisteddfod and local Music Festival etc. She won the 4th place at Asia-Pacific Violin Competition (Taiwan) in October 2015. Catherine is the leader of a quadruple violin group which she and her friends created, and they perform in various concerts all around Sydney.

Tracy Wan began her violin studies at the age of 5. At the age of 10, she made her solo debut with the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Chamber Orchestra, performing the Mozart Violin Concerto No.5. She won numerous prizes in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, such as 1st prize in the violin concerto competition. There she studied with Alice Waten and then Pavel Prantl. In 1993, she was awarded full scholarship from the Meadowmount School of Music. Tracy Wan won the 1st prize in the 1994 Kocian International Violin Competition in Prague and was invited to perform for the Hong Kong Governor, Chris Patten at the Hong Kong Governor's House.
Having awarded full scholarships from The Australian Institute of Music for the Young Musicians Program and SCECGS Redlands, Tracy Wan continued her violin studies with Alice Waten in Sydney in 1995. She won 1st prize in the 1998 Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic Orchestra Concerto Competition; as well as 1st prize in the 1999 Polish Concerto Competition and the Multiple Instruments Concerto Competition 2000. In 1998, she was awarded a full music scholarship from St. Andrew's Cathedral School. Her solo performances frequently broadcasted on the 2MBS-FM. In 1999, the Pan Pacific Music Camps awarded her a full scholarship to participate in the International Violin School.
In 2002, Tracy Wan was awarded the International String-Player Award and was placed second in the Gisborne International Music Competition in New Zealand. Her live performance was selected for broadcast on Concert FM, Radio New Zealand. She also recorded for "Young Australia", ABC Classic FM. She was the associate concertmaster of the Bishop Symphony Orchestra at the Australian Youth Orchestra music camp 2002. She led the Viva String Quartet from 2001- 2003, which won the 1st prize in the Open Age String Quartet Competition at MacDonald's Performing Art's Challenge 2003. The quartet was invited to perform in the 4th Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition. Tracy Wan held a full scholarship for her Bachelor of Music in performance at the Australian Institute of Music. There she was granted Advanced Diploma of Music in performance in 2003.
Tracy Wan relocated to Melbourne in 2004, to fulfil her commitments as an Academy Musician at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) and was the concertmaster of the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra and the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) Symphony Orchestra. She performed as a soloist with the ANAM Chamber Orchestra, playing the Bach Violin Concerto No.2 under the baton of John Harding and recorded for the "Hush Collection" CD vol.II which is now distributed around Australia. Tracy Wan graduated from the VCA – Melbourne University with Bachelor of Music in performance (Honours) 2004.
After studying with Zakhar Bron and Benedict Cruft, Dean of Music at HKAPA in 2005, Tracy Wan began her Master of Music in performance under Kathleen and Allison Short scholarships with the Chair of String Unit, Goetz Richter at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2006. She performed in Julian Rachlin's masterclass and gave solo recitals in NSW. In 2007, Tracy Wan performed live on 2MBS-FM as part of the "Emerging Young Artist Series".
Tracy Wan founded the Sapphire String Quartet which was selected to perform for the APEC Summit at the Sydney Opera House on the 8th September 2007. The Quartet has played in masterclasses for the Borodin String Quartet and the Artemis String Quartet. In 2010, Tracy led the Sapphire Ensemble into the finals of the Musica Viva Chamber Music Competition.
Tracy Wan has been a member of the Australia Opera and Ballet Orchestra since 2007 and was invited to perform with the Macau Symphony Orchestra in 2013. She recently performed as a soloist in the opera by candlelight concerts in Canberra.
An honours graduate and scholarship recipient of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Belinda McGlynn spent her post-graduate years in Melbourne as resident pianist for the Australian Ballet, and then as scholar at the Australian National Academy of Music. Belinda has enjoyed solo performances, playing concerti with Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria and the Sydney Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra, but feels most at home in collaborative roles as a chamber and orchestral musician. She has given concerts extensively throughout Sydney, Melbourne and regional Australia, and has also been broadcast several times on ABC radio. Belinda lives in Sydney and performs regularly, alongside several teaching posts.

Suzi was born in Rome to founder members of Baroque chamber group i Musici. She grew up in South Africa and began her studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban. Her debut performance in 1996 in Jean Paul Comelin's Ballet Le Nuit D'ete (Berlioz) became the first of many guest soloist engagements with the KwaZulu Natal Philharmonic Orchestra. She had many solo recitals engagements through the Friends of Music and Not the Grahamstown Festival, and performed regularly with the Baroque 2000 orchestra as well as The Early Music Ensemble. In Australia she completed her Masters of Music at the Australian Institute of Music, appearing regularly in the St Andrews Cathedral and the Art Gallery of NSW Lunchtime Concert Series recitals. She performed the role of the First Lady in Aim's production of Mozart's Magic Flute and was costume designer for that production, as well as their subsequent production of Purcell's The Fairy Queen.
She has performed in concert for the Consulate of the Czeck Republic in Sydney, for Australian artist David Capra's Ecclesiastical Banner Project and in various recitals at The Flute Tree. Her recent guest performance at the Sydney Opera House with the Hourglass Ensemble was a world premier of Australian Composer Andrew Kennedy's 'Hourglass Beach'.
She taught singing in South Africa at the University of KwaZulu Natal, the University of Durban-Westville, Technikon Natal, as well as privately, and now teaches in Sydney as well as on the Central Coast. She has directed various choirs and vocal ensembles from the NU Jazz Singers in Durban to the Lugar Brae Community Choir in Waverley and Vox Gloria in Sydney. She is currently directing a new initiative, the Artists Central Community Choir. Suzi is a member of The Sydney Art Song Society, a founding member of Divas on Demand and is the Creative Director of Artists Central.
Suzi will be performing with the Hourglass Ensemble in their Danzas Amarosas program next month at the Melbourne Recital Centre and the Utzon Room at the Sydney Opera House.
Andrew Kennedy (clarinet)
Since graduating from the University of Tasmania Conservatorium with distinction in clarinet performance, Andrew qualified for his ongoing part-time career as a specialist anaesthetist, while performing regularly throughout Australia and overseas as soloist and chamber musician. He has a particular affinity for modern music with unusual combinations of instruments, and is a champion of break down the formality of concerts to allow the audience enhanced experience, enjoyment and understanding. Andrew is also a professional singer, touring internationally for more than a decade with The Australian Voices.
Andrew is the founding artistic director of Sydney's Hourglass Ensemble, a group of between 4 and 10 members depending on the project, specialising in brand new and recent Australian chamber works, along with Romantic era gems. They have a series of concerts at the Utzon Room of the Sydney Opera House, presenting unique combinations that include woodwind, strings, voice, brass, and piano. In 2016 alone they have commissioned seven Australian composers, and toured to Brisbane, Melbourne, and Poland.
Finally, Andrew is the principal clarinetist of the NSW, Australian, and World Doctors orchestras. He is a composer whose works have premiered in the Sydney Opera House and the Melbourne Recital Centre, and overseas; and he regularly donates his time and musical skills to charities such as Day of Difference and the White Ribbon Appeal.

Josephine Allan commenced her piano studies in Canberra, Australia, graduating with a Bachelor of Music, and subsequently completing her Postgraduate Diploma in Accompaniment at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. She has been constantly engaged in various teaching and performing roles since that time.
In her thirteen years as Principal Keyboard of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Josephine has collaborated with many of the world's finest classical soloists and conductors, including Lorin Maazel, Charles Dutoit, and Edo de Waart, as well as eminent jazz musicians such as Lalo Schifrin and Branford Marsalis. She is in much demand as a chamber musician, frequently featuring in recitals and broadcasts. Her many recordings include several CDs of Australian music with clarinettist Phillipa Robinson of Perehlion for the Innaminka label, as well as frequent live and studio broadcasts for ABC Classic FM.
Throughout her career, Josephine has worked with many of Australia's finest musical organisations, including the Australia Ensemble, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Australian String Quartet, Alpha Ensemble, the Seymour Group, the Song Company, Cantillation, Halcyon, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, and Opera Australia. She also has a continuing long term association with the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, and with the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in the Ensemble Studies and Conducting Units.

This piece is inspired by Glenn Gould's interest in the channelling hidden spirit of the music he played. Gould hummed the hidden 'voice' he sensed in Bach's Goldberg Variations recordings as he performed.

performance inspired by Bill Evans, classical and jazz pianist
This piece is inspired by Glenn Gould's interest in the channelling hidden spirit of the music he played. Gould hummed the hidden 'voice' he sensed in Bach's Goldberg Variations recordings as he performed.
Ed Schots studied flute, saxophone and bass guitar in his native country the Netherlands. He migrated to Australia in 1993. He has extensive experience in a wide variety of musical genres. In 2014 he gained his Master of Performance degree at The Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Ed currently active as a performer in Sydney ensembles including 'Q' , 'Bump City', 'Bellhops', 'Performing Brazil', ' l'United Nations'.
Peter Stone is an Artist and musician. He has performed in many countries around the world, UK, France, China, SE Asia, and toured the Pacific on the PO TV 'Love Boat' series. He has had painting exhibitions in the UK and Australia. Peter composes and plays piano and flute. He lectures at university programs on the arts in Australia, Hong Kong, China and Dublin. Blake Fischer established himself as a recitalist in 1998 winning the prestigious 'Mietta's City of Melbourne Song Recital Award.' This enabled him to perform recitals all over Australia including the 1998 Melbourne International Festival,broadcast on ABC FM, the Mildura & Castlemaine festivals, the 1999 Brisbane International Festival and Sydney 'ABC Studio' Lunchtime recital recording, and recording on Move Records.
A multiple prize winner he won the Geelong, Mordialloc, Booroondara, Cowra, City of Shoalhaven, and Ballarat Star for Opera aria competitions. As well, he was a finalist and multiple prize winner in the Australian Singing Competition Mathy Awards in 1998 & 1999, and a finalist in the International Young Singer of the year award in Llangollen (UK) in 2000.
Whilst overseas Blake sang with Scottish Opera, Glyndebourne, Salzburg Festival, Cape Town Opera, Opera North, Garsington Opera, English Touring Opera as well as in Concert with the London Sinfonia and Northern Sinfonia. He has been performing with Opera Australia since his return to Australia in 2011.
Josie Flores Tam is an extremely talented musician. She completed her Bachelor of Music (performing double major in piano and violin) in 2007 and Honours in piano performance in 2008. She studies piano under the direction of Dr Gian-Franco Ricci and Mrs Ann O'Hearn, studied violin under the direction of Dr Susan Collins and studied vocal technique under the direction of Dr Jennifer Barnes and world famous Australian Opera singer Ghillian Sullivan.
Josie is in great demand as an accompanist and she is the accompanist for:
As well, Josie plays in different quartets and trio for weddings and public performances and is also an enthusiastic teacher of music at the Newcastle Conservatorium and schools around Newcastle and Music Specialists Maitland Inc. Hunter Valley School of Music.
As well as a pianist, she was the lead role "Kim" in Opera Hunter's 2009 production "Miss Saigon"; "Fiammetta" in Newcastle Festival Opera's 2010 "The Gondoliers"; Musical Director in Newcastle Gilbert and Sullivan's "Double Bill"; "Christmas Eve" in Pantseat Production's 2011 "Avenue Q", in which Josie has earned as a Nominee for "Best Actress in a leading role in a Musical" in 2011 33rd Conda Awards.
Josie is a member of the Echology Choir since 2008, winner of Channel 7 "Battle of the Choirs" TV show. She has toured with the Choir to China for the "World Choir Games" as a singer, pianist, as well as translator. She also coached, conducted and directed the choir in performing three Traditional Chinese folk songs during the tour performances and the tour CD recording, "Jasmine and Wattle" 2010. In which Josie Tam was selected by the University of Newcastle 100 Women Book, published in 2011.
