Mitzi Gardner
Mitzi is 17 years old and is a student at Sydney Distance Education High School. She attends the Sydney Conservatorium of Music's Rising Stars Program, studying violin with Janet Davies. Mitzi has been awarded her A. Mus. A. and L. Mus. A. from the Australian Music Examinations Board both with distinction. She has recorded performances for 2MBS FM's Young Virtuosi Program for the last 4 years. Mitzi began playing violin at age 3, and at age 6 was invited to perform as a soloist at the World Suzuki Convention in Turin, Italy.
Since then, Mitzi has performed solo violin at many concerts: At school events, The Conservatorium of Music, Charity events and Community Concerts. She regularly performs as a soloist and chamber musician in the Sydney Conservatorium's weekly Rising Stars concerts. Recent performances include: Guest soloist at the Australian Music Examination Board Graduation Ceremony and soloist at The Australian Council of Educational Leaders National Conference. In 2015 she was a recitalist for the National Youth Concerto Competition Finals Week and a featured soloist for the nationally broadcast School's Spectacular where she performed Vivaldi's "Winter". As well, Mitzi is a graduate of The Talent Development Project, involving regular performances and mentoring from professional musicians.
Mitzi has been concertmaster of The Arts Unit Orchestra, and has participated as a scholarship recipient in the Australian Chamber Orchestra Academy. She was selected for the Australian Youth Orchestra's international tour to Europe and China. In 2016 Mitzi won The National Youth Concerto Competition performing the Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 1 with the Queensland Youth Orchestra. This year Mitzi performed a solo in The Sydney Opera House, for the Encore Concert. In April she travelled to the UK attending the New Virtuosi Mastercourse, working with professors from The Royal College of Music. For this event she was selected as a soloist to perform a Vivaldi Concerto with the New Virtuosi String Ensemble in one of their concerts.

Paul is one of Australia's most promising young accompanists. He recently completed a postgraduate diploma at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he was a recipient of both the prestigious Geoffrey Parsons Australian Scholarship and the Chapple Bremner Award. He has studied piano with Tamara Anna Cislowska and accompaniment with David Miller AM. He is increasingly in demand as an accompanist for instrumentalists and singers across a wide range of situations, including concerts, competitions, recordings, and so on.
In addition to his experience as an accompanist, Paul has also achieved considerable success as a solo pianist. In 2009, he was the winner of both the UMT Roger Woodward Scholarship and the MTA Junior Pianoforte Scholarship, and as a result of the latter he was chosen to perform in Adelaide in the Yamaha Recitals Australia Showcase concert as the NSW representative. In 2010, he was runner-up in the prestigious Kawai Piano Award at the Sydney Eisteddfod. Later in the year, he entered the semi-finals of the 2MBS-FM young performers award, and was subsequently runner-up in the state finals. In late 2011, he was awarded his LMusA with distinction, and was invited to be one of the five performers at the graduation ceremony in early 2012. More recently, Paul was the winner of the Recital Award section of the Sydney Eisteddfod, and runner-up in the Russian Piano section.
Aside from piano-playing, Paul is also interested in mathematics. In 2008, he was a silver medallist at the International Mathematical Olympiad in Madrid (one of six Australian representatives that year). At the age of 19 (in 2012), Paul commenced his PhD in mathematics at the University of Sydney after being awarded a Bachelor of Science (advanced mathematics), with first class honours and the university medal.

Sweet bird that shunst the noise of folly - Handel, G.F. (1685-1759)
The oratorio Il Allegro, Il Penseroso ed Il moderato is unique among Handel composition as the work has no plot beyond the dramatic tension between the characters. Based on poetry by John Milton, the work was written and premiered in 1740 at the urging of Charles Jennens, who added a third poem "Il Moderato". Jennens would become the librettist for Messiah, Handel's most famous oratorio. The aria 'Sweet Bird that shunst the noise of folly' is part of the Il Penseroso (the contemplative). It features a duet between the soprano and flute and presents some of the most demanding lines for both parts.
Ei, wie schmeckt der Kaffee süsse - Bach, J.S. (1685-1750)
Over his lifetime Bach made numerous contribution to vocal music, not the least his hundreds of church cantatas which he wrote in Leipzig. He wrote no operas, yet Bach did leave a handful of secular cantatas – meant to be staged as informal concerts. One of the most well-known being the Coffee Cantata, BWV211 which was first premiered in a coffee house. The plot tells of Leischen, a girl who was quite attached to drinking coffee: something which was quite novel in 18th century Germany in defiance of her father's lectures. In Ei, wie schmeckt der Kaffee süsse, Leischen sings of her love towards coffee. The despairing father vowed to find a husband who would make her give up the unprepossessing habit, but Leischen found a lover who shared her passion towards the brown liquid. The cantata ends with a conclusion that "drinking coffee is natural".
Une Flûte invisible - Saint-Saëns, Camille (1835-1921)
This piece was written at the height of pastoral revival which coincided with French Impressionism in music and arts. Set from a poem by Victor Hugo, Saint-Saëns combined coalescing lines between the voice and flute which depicts a call and answer between the poet and its muse. The poem tells of an invisible flute which could be heard in the breeze of the orchard. "The most charming song is the song of lovers".

Despite being a native German, Handel spent most of his life in foreign lands, most notably England. Over his career he produced numerous works in English and Italian. Written in 1724-1726, Neun Deutsche Arien, in which this piece is the final aria could be seen as an antidote to homesickness. The poems were written by Barthold Heinrich Brockes, encompassing the praises of God and man's estate.
Fantasia in E minor for solo flute - Telemann, G.P. (1681-1767)
This piece forms one of Telemann's collections of music for unaccompanied instruments, published in Hamburg in 1732-1733. Telemann's solo flute fantasias are alone in the entire Baroque repertoire to include movements seemingly impossible on flute, featuring fugues in many of them including Fantasia in E minor.

Ria Andriani completed her BMus/BA from UNSW in 2014. She has studied singing with Kathleen Connell and Nancy Long. She recently attended the Dartington International Summer School where she received coaching from Carolyn Sampson and Dame Emma Kirkby.
Ria is a parishioner of St James' King Street. She held a choral scholarship between 2015-16 where she took part in the Choir's tour to the UK. She is currently working with the Sydney Chamber Choir, as well as developing a fine solo repertoire. She is planning to undertake further study in the UK in the near future.

As a soprano Wendy has maintained a successful international career in opera, oratorio, concert and recital work, and remains an active recitalist. She is an established singing teacher, currently tutoring at Open Academy USyd, the Australian Institute of Music and her own private studio. She is presently enrolled as a Doctoral student at USyd. Wendy is founder and director of Sydney Art Song Society Inc., producer and musical director of Opera Boot Camp Australia, curator of Cushion Concerts at CHIME and artistic director of Divas on Demand. She is a founding member with David Miller (piano) of Grevillea Ensemble renowned for their innovative programs.
Olivia Morberger. Soprano
Since beginning her musical studies, Olivia has explored both orchestral and vocal realms but has now landed herself in the world of singing. Olivia has performed as a clarinetist with orchestras at Parliament House, the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, the Sutherland Shire Symphony Orchestra, for various operas and musicals, toured with the Symphony of Australia, and performed at The Art Gallery of NSW and St Andrews Cathedral. With her hands advancing before her age, Olivia lay her clarinet to rest and strolled into the land of big voices and even bigger 'hair.' Since then Olivia has sung with Sutherland Symphony Orchestra, competed in eisteddfodau, performed in the Australian Institute of Music's opera gala, sung with the UNSW Collegium Musicum Choir and is a regular performer with Divas on Demand.

After graduating from Sydney Conservatorium with a Bachelor of Music degree Andrea lived in the U.K. where she performed the roles of Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Stogumber music festival; Norina in Don Pasquale, Mayer Lismann Opera; First Lady in Die Zauberflöte, Stowe Opera and Rose Maybud in Ruddigore, The University of London Opera. She has performed extensively in recitals in Australia and abroad featuring music of France, Germany, Spain and Latin America. Later this year she will play Icilio in La Caduta with Gandharve and present Mexican art songs with Duo Deconet.
Natalia Melnik. Soprano
Natalia was born in Russia and moved to Sydney in 2013. At the age of thirteen she was granted a place in a children's concert choir Cantilena and later became the choir soloist, performing in numerous concerts and touring in Russia and Europe. Natalia continued her studies in Valentina Levko's Center of Vocal Art and later at the Australian Institute of Music. Currently Natalia is studying towards her Postgraduate Research Degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Natalia is an active performer appearing in lunchtime concerts at St.Stephen's Uniting Church, in the Sutherland Shire Symphony Orchestra Christmas concert 2016, in recitals at Glebe Justice Center, Australian Hall and others. In 2017 Natalia will sing in the production of the opera "La Caduta De' Decemviri" by A. Scarlatti performing the role of Valeria.
Stephanie Charlotte Jones. Soprano
Stephanie is a Welsh-Australian soprano who has been performing for 6 years. In 2014 Stephanie moved to Sydney to commence her Bachelor of Music degree in Classical Singing Performance at the Australian Institute of Music. Stephanie's performance credits include AIM's production of L'elisir d'amore (2014); CHIME Cushion Concert Series Recitals (2014/15); Opera Bootcamp (2015); Rockdale Opera Company's Trial by Jury (2015); Pacific Opera's production of The Cunning Little Vixen (2015); Operanatics Productions of Cosi fan tutte (2015) and La sonnabula (2016). Stephanie performed the role of Gretel in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel (2015). In 2016 she also had solo section in the Pacific Opera's Annual Gala concert and Australian Institute of Music's Gala and completed her BMus.
Mikayla Tate. Soprano
Mikayla holds a BMus in Classical Voice from AIM and is currently studying her Masters of Music. She has performed in musicals and opera in both Queensland and NSW including most recently AIM's production of Hänsel und Gretel (Dewfairy/Sandman and Gretel alternate). She has performed with companies such as Operantics, Pacific Opera and is looking forward to an Australian premiere of La Caduta de Decemviri with Ghandarve Music in which she will originate Virginia. Other credits include: Symphony of Australia tour, soloist performances with Sutherland Shire Symphony Orchestra, recitals at the Art Gallery of NSW, St Stephens and St Andrews and in 2016 Mikayla attained second place in the Australian Concerto and Vocal Competition.
Paola Andrea Monroy Montaño. Soprano
Paola graduated from the University of Los Andes, Bogota with the Bachelor of Music degree in 2010. She performed in Dido and Aeneas at the Colon Theatre, directed by Ximena Bernal, participated in international workshops and master classes. Roles she has performed include Pamina, Die Zauberflöte, Mozart; Amore, Orfeo ed Euridice, Gluck and Fairy, the Fairy Queen, Henry Purcell. She has also sung the Soprano solos in Handel's Messiah and the Te deum by M.A Charpentier with vocal ensemble Iuventus. Currently Paola is undertaking the Masters of Music course at AIM. She is an active performer appearing in recitals at St. Andrew's Cathedral, NSW Art gallery, "the Cushion Concerts" at Chime, "Divas on Demand" events and Nella Luce Studios with whom she has regularly performed since 2015.
Suzi Stengel. Soprano
Suzi Stengel is an Italian born, South African bred soprano who now calls Australia home. In South Africa she performed in many solo recitals with the Friends of Music and Not the Grahamstown Festival. She appeared regularly with the Baroque 2000 orchestra, the KwaZulu Natal Philharmonic Orchestra and with the Early Music Ensemble. In Sydney she has been a regular performer at the St Andrews, the Art Gallery of NSW, and the St Stephens Lunch Time Concert Series. She recently performed with the Hourglass Ensemble at the Melbourne Recital Centre and at the Sydney Opera House. Over the years she has directed various choirs and vocal ensembles. Suzi is also the creative director of Artists Central and has recently completed the Masters of Music program at the Australian Institute of Music.

Stephanie Charlotte Jones. Soprano
Stephanie is a Welsh-Australian soprano who has been performing for 6 years. In 2014 Stephanie moved to Sydney to commence her Bachelor of Music degree in Classical Singing Performance at the Australian Institute of Music. Stephanie's performance credits include AIM's production of L'elisir d'amore (2014); CHIME Cushion Concert Series Recitals (2014/15); Opera Bootcamp (2015); Rockdale Opera Company's Trial by Jury (2015); Pacific Opera's production of The Cunning Little Vixen (2015); Operanatics Productions of Cosi fan tutte (2015) and La sonnabula (2016). Stephanie performed the role of Gretel in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel (2015). In 2016 she also had solo section in the Pacific Opera's Annual Gala concert and Australian Institute of Music's Gala and completed her BMus.
Mikayla Tate. Soprano
Mikayla holds a BMus in Classical Voice from AIM and is currently studying her Masters of Music. She has performed in musicals and opera in both Queensland and NSW including most recently AIM's production of Hänsel und Gretel (Dewfairy/Sandman and Gretel alternate). She has performed with companies such as Operantics, Pacific Opera and is looking forward to an Australian premiere of La Caduta de Decemviri with Ghandarve Music in which she will originate Virginia. Other credits include: Symphony of Australia tour, soloist performances with Sutherland Shire Symphony Orchestra, recitals at the Art Gallery of NSW, St Stephens and St Andrews and in 2016 Mikayla attained second place in the Australian Concerto and Vocal Competition.
Paola Andrea Monroy Montaño. Soprano
Paola graduated from the University of Los Andes, Bogota with the Bachelor of Music degree in 2010. She performed in Dido and Aeneas at the Colon Theatre, directed by Ximena Bernal, participated in international workshops and master classes. Roles she has performed include Pamina, Die Zauberflöte, Mozart; Amore, Orfeo ed Euridice, Gluck and Fairy, the Fairy Queen, Henry Purcell. She has also sung the Soprano solos in Handel's Messiah and the Te deum by M.A Charpentier with vocal ensemble Iuventus. Currently Paola is undertaking the Masters of Music course at AIM. She is an active performer appearing in recitals at St. Andrew's Cathedral, NSW Art gallery, "the Cushion Concerts" at Chime, "Divas on Demand" events and Nella Luce Studios with whom she has regularly performed since 2015.
Suzi Stengel. Soprano
Suzi Stengel is an Italian born, South African bred soprano who now calls Australia home. In South Africa she performed in many solo recitals with the Friends of Music and Not the Grahamstown Festival. She appeared regularly with the Baroque 2000 orchestra, the KwaZulu Natal Philharmonic Orchestra and with the Early Music Ensemble. In Sydney she has been a regular performer at the St Andrews, the Art Gallery of NSW, and the St Stephens Lunch Time Concert Series. She recently performed with the Hourglass Ensemble at the Melbourne Recital Centre and at the Sydney Opera House. Over the years she has directed various choirs and vocal ensembles. Suzi is also the creative director of Artists Central and has recently completed the Masters of Music program at the Australian Institute of Music.
Eun-Jung Byun
Eun-Jung Byun is a talented and intelligent musician who has established herself in the Australian music scene as a leading member of a new generation of young professional pianists. She has exceptional skills as a vocal accompanist and chamber musician.

Sirius Chamber EnsembleFormed in 2011, Sirius Chamber Ensemble is a mixed ensemble of winds, strings and piano. Our passion is to perform music from the classic to contemporary periods, in a friendly and accessible atmosphere. We are committed to collaborating regularly with local composers and presenting new music alongside the classics. We relish the opportunity to perform the larger works for winds, strings and piano, as well as music for smaller groups of instrumentalists. Our repertoire is diverse and often features unusual combinations of instruments. The name 'Sirius' resonates with the history of Sydney, borrowing the name of the flagship of the First Fleet, the H.M.S Sirius.

A graduate of Sydney Conservatorium, Heather has been organist and director of music at Scots Kirk Presbyterian in Mosman for the past eleven years. She is also pianist with the Mirrabooka Singers, giving concerts in retirement villages and nursing homes.
Every Christmas and Easter she plays for several performances of Handel's Messiah, both in Sydney and regional areas. In May she accompanied the Illawarra Choral Society in Faure's Requiem, and in July will give a lunchtime recital at St Andrew's Cathedral.
In addition to a private teaching studio in Sydney's Hills district, Heather teaches piano at Georges River Grammar School and is an examiner with the Australian and New Zealand Cultural Arts. Until recently she was a chorister with the Sunday Evensong choir at Christ Church St Laurence, Sydney, who performed Bach's Mass in B minor in April.
